Swaffham Church of England Junior Academy celebrations
Posted on 7 July 2015
On 6th July pupils, staff, governors and parents along with members of DNEAT celebrated the school becoming an academy. Bishop Graham joined the academy for a service of dedication and thanksgiving marked by the unveiling of a new mosaic at the entrance to the school. Designed by pupils and made by Carolyn Ash, artist in residence, the mosaic includes the academy values and the logo of the Swaffham Owl. Bishop Graham spoke to the children about the origin of the word "academy" meaning a good place to come together and learn which Swaffham Junior has definitely become. The children sang a number of songs with great enthusiasm, and each class read a prayer which they had written based around the schools vision and aims. Then visitors were invited to walk around the school where each class room had a different activity taking place finishing with refreshments and owl shaped biscuits, altogether an excellent celebration event.
