The Nar Valley Federation of Church Academies would like to appoint an enthusiastic, hadrworking and friendly Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with SEND in out Reception and Year One Class. The role will mainly involve support for an individual pupil with Autism but you may at times also support some of our other children with SEND.
Ideally we are seeking to employ someone who has experience of working with SEND pupils, particularly those with ASD. Experience of using PEX would also be an advantage as the pupils you will be supporting will be working within this curriculum.
You will predominantly be based in one class, mainly supporting a young pupil who has an Education Health Care Plan and a diagnosis of ASD. You will be responsible for supporting learning and progress, following guidance from staff and external agencies. You may prepare resources, deluver focused provision to specifically meet the needs of this child and will wirk alongside existing staff. During your day, you may provide some support for other children in the class with additional needs under the guidance of the class teacher. At lunchtimes, you will provide additional support for the child when outside, as long as this is needed. As such your lunch break may be split.
You will be joining a strong team of staff within a small primary school setting. You will need to be proactive in your approach, kind and caring and work well as part of a team. You will need to be calm and patient, yet consistent and clear in your communication both with the child/ren and parents and carers.
The main areas of respnsibility include:
- Supporting a child with ASD within his play and learning experiences
- Delivering docused provision and support to enhance and extend children's learning and progress under the guidance of external agencies and the class teacher
- Ammending resources to ensure these are accessible to the pupil(s) you are working with
- Ensure you are clear about intended learning outcomes and how these may be achieved
- Provide additional adult support to enable the named pupil to have wider access to a range of learning opportunities
- Supporting the child to develop an understanding of routines and expectations within the class
