Your Actions – Their Future – Your path to Carbon Neutrality
Our successful Sustainability Conference was hosted by Diocese of Norwich Education Services Company (DoNESC) in partnership with Anglian Water at the Enterprise Centre, UEA Research Park, Norwich.
Introducing the objectives for the day, the Sustainability Conference was opened with a talk from The Bishop of Norwich, Graham Usher, who was appointed as lead of the Church of England’s Environment Programme in 2021.
The aim of the conference was to create a vison within schools to becoming carbon neutral, giving autonomy to staff and for children to become ‘agents for change.’
There were free knowledge sharing sessions from business experts on the same journey, how to create a sustainability vision, environmental savings tips, how to engage your staff and the local community and best environmental practice tips.
There were keynote speakers from schools sharing best practice and case studies together with speakers from Anglian Water, EMF, AVIVA and EMCOR UK, a facilities and workplace management company and Systems together with Applications in Data Processing (SAP).
At the Conference there were opportunities for teachers, school governors, site managers and school business managers to learn how to create a ‘sustainability vision’ and listen to short talks by business experts on financial savings and practical things that can be done together with examples of best practice.
Anglian Water, EMF, AVIVA, EMCOR UK and SAP shared their own carbon footprint journeys and the speakers detailed how they ensure best sustainability practices on their sites, in canteens and throughout their supply chains.
The aim of the conference was twofold. To get teachers, the children and the whole school community involved, making practical decisions on how to initiate each school to do something, however large or small to make an environmental difference. The second aim was to prepare the young who will be environmentally aware ensuring they have the knowledge for the future.
It is hoped that each school will become a centre of environmental excellence where the children can learn for their own futures and sustainability awareness.
