Nightingale Federation Values and Team Building Day

May 17, 2024

The Nightingale Federation were excited to hold their first Federation team building sports event this week. The event, run in partnership with West Norfolk & Dereham School Sports Partnership, saw children from Lyng CofE Primary Academy and Thomas Bullock CofE Primary and Nursery Academy join together at Thomas Bullock for a morning of team building and sports activities. Children in Key Stage 2 took part in a range of activities designed to build resilience, a sense of joined school community, develop creativity and demonstrate kindness. Pupils’ at Lyng and Thomas Bullock both commented that, ‘We made friends with new people which was fun.’

The mixed school teams worked together, to ‘let their light shine’ and earn points for their team at each activity.  Following the event,  pupils and teams were awarded a range of certificates, including the ‘Light for Health’ values-based awards for ‘Resilience’, and ‘Teamwork.’

Shannon O’Sullivan, Executive Headteacher of the Federation said ‘We are thrilled to have been able to take this opportunity to bring both schools from our wonderful Federation together for this event. I feel privileged to be able to oversee these two fantastic schools and offer opportunities for them to integrate.  It was a joy to see the children working together and hearing how much they enjoyed feeling part of a larger learning community. It was also a delight to hear from parents that ‘they appreciated the increased opportunities for their children to work in partnership across our schools.’

A child, in Year 4 at Thomas Bullock, said “I had a really wonderful day and made a new friend.”  A Year 5 pupil from Lyng mentioned, ‘I really enjoyed the different activities and it was so cool to see the other school we have joined with.’

The event follows a joint school Federation trip to the Dereham Library for our Reception children in the Spring Term.  In the near future, pupils’ from across the Federation in KS1 are heading to the zoo together before our Federation Church Service, due to take place in July for all pupils’.
