VE Day in Carbrooke
June 30, 2025

A fantastic, fun filled afternoon and evening in Carbrooke village, hosted in the afternoon by St Peter and St Paul CofE Primary Academy (Carbrooke) and later on by the Village Hall. An afternoon tea, traditional games, displays, memorabilia, vehicles and a singing wonder!
The Friends did all the arranging, organising, catering, setting up and manning the relevant stalls, all of which was free for the children, their families and people from our local community. The Red, White and Blue theme was prominent, and the children had all been involved with painting a sea of poppies hanging up on display.
This event was a fantastic ‘Friends’ moment, who had also put flyers through the local doors to ensure everyone knew they were welcome.
The evening event included the lighting of the beacon, and more history through the heritage centre, which KS2 children had visited during the afternoon.
The ethos of the afternoon and evening shouted out ‘community’ and how everyone can work so well together, whatever their background or history has been. The children enjoyed the their time, celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE day, and we were so pleased that so many came along to join in with us.
A big thank you to Mrs Cooke, Natalie Cooper and all the other amazing parents who were involved in making the day a big success, and to those visitors who gave up their time to come along.
