Going for gold to celebrate last day of chemotherapy

May 3, 2023

On Saturday 20th May 2023, Finnie will take his last chemotherapy drug and ring the bell
which signals the end of treatment! Throughout the past three years, there have been times
when his family honestly thought this day would never arrive, however, they are just a few
weeks away.

Kellie Egleton, Finnie’s mother and headteacher of Hopton CE Primary Academy said:
“We have been so well supported throughout our journey by friends, family, colleagues and
also two brilliant local charities, Finnbar’s Force and The Norfolk and Norwich Hospital Jenny
Lind Dept.

“We would love to mark the occasion by raising money and awareness and this is where I need your help! On Friday 19th May, I would love to invite our school friends and parents of Hopton and others part of the Diocese of Norwich Education and Academies Trust (DNEAT), Diocese of Norwich and St. Benet’s families to Go Gold for Childhood Cancer.

“My idea is for everyone to come into Hopton school dressed in gold, as a superhero or in home clothes in exchange for a silver coin, if every pupil did this, we would raise an exceptional amount of money.”

Join us at Hopton CE Primary Academy on Friday 19th May 2023 and help to fill our pot of gold and raise money for two excellent local charities.”

Every week in the UK and Ireland more than 30 children and diagnosed with Cancer. Two out of ten children will not survive their disease. Come into school dressed in gold or as a superhero in exchange for a silver coin.

Kellie said: “The unstinting kindness and support of friends, family and colleagues helped us get through and continues to sustain us. We feel incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such love.

Thank you for supporting us to help other children with life-threatening illnesses.

It really does make a difference.”
