Middleton Church of England Primary Academy put out a ‘garden SOS’ to companies and green-fingered individuals that would like to help support their new garden project which was picked up by the Eastern Daily Press and the Lynn News.

Jayne Hill, Head of School said: “We asked for any garden saviours that we could call upon for either new or used garden equipment and any seeds and flowers. Our school has several flower beds, which are looking sad and very neglected, and we are keen to improve them. Our idea is for our staff and pupils to get involved and do the flower beds in phases. We are keen to get our pupils outdoors as much as possible and link the new flower beds with books we are studying.”

She continued: “The first phase is to turn the larger flowerbed we have into ‘Endurance’ because Badger Class is using Shackleton’s Journey as inspiration for our writing. We are aiming to produce an exhibition at the end for parents which will be live or virtual depending upon the Covid situation.”

After the SOS plea was featured in the local newspapers and on Twitter, some generous companies responded immediately.

Jayne said: “Within a day we have already had a delivery of items from Morrison’s in King’s Lynn and their community champion has volunteered to come ad give time to help us too. We have had responses from TruckEast, Plant Grow, Germains, Greenworld and William George Sand & Gravel Ltd to our appeal too. We are truly grateful and the pupils are beyond excited to get started. We will keep everyone updated on our progress!”

Initially Middleton Primary Academy needs garden forks, spades, children’s gardening gloves for 9 – 11-year-old, rakes, topsoil, compost, wood stain, black paint and silver paint, white climbing plants e.g., clematis, white Lavender, white hydrangeas, cauliflower seeds, blue and white plants and trailing lobelia.

If any further companies or green fingered individuals are willing to donate items or their time or find out more about the specific wish-list, please contact Jayne Hill via email j.hill@middleton.dneat.org or call 01553 840234.
