Shadrak Mushengezi from Open Academy wins the EDP Student of the Year Award

October 24, 2023

Described as an “unbelievably exceptional student” Shadrak Mushengezi from Open Academy has unsurprisingly won EDP Student of the Year Award.  Congratulations to him!

Life hasn’t been easy for Shadrack, with his brother living with a rare heart condition and his mother also has health issues, which means he has been a young carer throughout most of his life.

Throughout his time in sixth form, he sought out courses and experiences to help him gain an insight into the world of medicine, making sure his passion to pursue a career in medicine came true as he started this year at Swansea University.

As well as his academic brilliance, Shadrack also captained the high school football tram to victory, represented England at the Gothia Cup in Sweden, broke the Norfolk 200m record which stood for 15 years and won the Platten Plate for demonstration school core values.

He was also Head boy at Open Academy.

The judges were astounded by the nomination for Shadrack.

Shadrack said: “Personally, I don’t think I would have accomplished this without the support of Open Academy, the headmaster Jon Ford and especially Mrs Molloy, head of sixth form.”
