Sustainability Conference

Your Actions – Their Future – Your path to Carbon Neutrality

A Sustainability Conference is being hosted by Diocese of Norwich Education Services Company (DoNESC) in partnership with Anglian Water on Monday 20th June 2022 from 9.45am to 3pm at the Enterprise Centre, UEA Research Park, Norwich, NR4 7TJ.

The aim of the conference, which is free to attend, is to create a vison within schools to becoming carbon neutral, giving autonomy to staff and for children to become ‘agents for change.’

What to expect: –

  • Free knowledge sharing sessions from business experts on the same journey
  • How to create a sustainability vision
  • Environmental savings tips
  • How to engage your staff and the local community
  • Sharing best environmental practice tips

There will be keynote speakers from schools sharing best practice and case studies together with speakers from Anglian Water, EMF, AVIVA and EMCOR UK, a facilities and workplace management company and Systems together with Applications in Data Processing (SAP).

At the Conference there will be opportunities for teachers, school governors, site managers and school business managers to learn how to create a ‘sustainability vision’ and listen to short talks by business experts on financial savings and practical things that can be done together with examples of best practice.

Anglian Water, EMF, AVIVA, EMCOR UK and SAP will share their own carbon footprint journeys and the speakers will detail how they ensure best sustainability practices on their sites, in canteens and throughout their supply chains.

The aim of the conference is twofold.  It is to get teachers, the children and the whole school community involved, making practical decisions on how to initiate each school to do something, however large or small to make an environmental difference.   The second aim is to prepare the young who will be environmentally aware ensuring they have the knowledge for the future.

It is hoped that each school will become a centre of environmental excellence where the children can learn for their own futures and sustainability awareness.

Introducing the objectives for the day, the Sustainability Conference will open with a talk from The Bishop of Norwich, Graham Usher, who was appointed as lead of the Church of England’s Environment Programme in 2021.

The Conference is open to all, including, teachers from all academy trusts and schools in Norfolk together with the DNEAT, St Benet’s and Diocesan schools, as well as governors, business and site managers and other staff who may lead on environmental concerns within schools.

Teachers can expect to find resources available that link to the curriculum plus information about green jobs and green skills.
